Life is Gaming

RAWR: So, I started this thinking I would write about the vids I post, but honestly, most of it is repeat and I didn't feel excited about writing about a game I already talked about in that manner.
Time for something a little diff.
I feel like writing about life and gaming. Maybe I will do more posts about vids. Maybe not. But for now, I feel like writing something else.
Gaming is life. Life is gaming with better pixels.
I have been playing games my whole life. When I was tiny, like 2 and 3 and 4 years old; we didn't own technology. In fact, I slept on a wooden plank held up by blocks of cement. We were poor. So poor we lived in a garage for the most part, and our toys were mcdonalds happy meal toys in free boxes at yardsales.
One day, when I was five, my dad came home with a car load of stuff. We had gotten our first tv just before that, and omgoodness, that car, I don't know if my dad went to a donation thing or bought auctions from a toy store or a cousin gave us all their old stuff, I don't know, but it was Heaven. For little kids who had only ever had raggedy stuffed animals and little throw away free box toys before, this car was like being introduced to a whole other world.
It had legoes, TONS of them, it had clothes, it had new stuffed animals, it had books, and it had an Atari.
We didn't really have anything much for games. pong. space invaders. astroids. pacman, but still. Our little minds ate it up.
We moved, and lost a lot of our stuff, but when we moved, later, we got a computer. Little nothing bit games like beating a spider in an apple tree and other DOS games became something we were rarely allowed to touch. We moved again. This is where the real gaming love kicked in.
Back to Alaska we were, and us kids had no toys or anything again. We wondered the woods a lot, and as we were one day, our great uncle drove by and invited us to come over to his house out of the snow. He had a SUPER NINTENDO with games. Like Super Mario world, and ZELDA!!! and others. We were enthralled. We were captivated. We took turns playing, each watching the other till it was our turn again. We started coming over to his house all the time. He let us play on his system. What happy children were we.
For Christmas, when we moved back away again, he got us a nintendo, not a super, but still, it had the orig zelda and orig mario and duck hunt and so many games. We were such happy children, until we moved again, and didn't get to keep it.
But we moved in with him, and my mother married him, ( he was my father's uncle) and so we got to now LIVE with that glorious super nintendo. Secret of Mana. Final Fantasy 3 (really it was 6, but the rest were not in america at that time) and so much more became the joy of our lives.
He also had a computer, so King's Quest, Quest for Glory, and other awesome dos games became staples of our diets until our turn to play on the super Nintendo.
My father, not to be outdone, when we moved, yet again, he came to visit and got us kids a Playstation. Our first game was Crash Bandicoot. haha.
There was this promo for Final Fantasy 7 and drinking 7 up. We didn't know we were getting one of the greatest, most epic games ever made. We were in shock when the intro loaded and the graphics made us want to cry. The ensuing cussing from Barret made my mother want to cry, but my Step Father/Great Uncle was also amazed and would watch us play it. Thankfully, that meant we didn't have to get rid of the game until later.
The Playstation was a myriad of wonder and pleasure. Spyro, Final Fantasy tactics and Ogre Tactics, Tales of Destiny, Lunar: Silver Star Story, Brigandine, Tony Hawk pro skater, Xenogears, Suikoden, Final Fantasy 8 and 9. Suikoden 2. Vagrant Story. Legend of Dragoon. Kartia. The list goes on forever. We consumed gaming like other people consume sports.
The computer also got an upgrade, and we were now playing Lords of the Realm, Age of Empires, Ceasar, might and magic, and even pogo.com and puzzle pirates.
This all before I ever hit sweet 16. Gaming has been my life since the begining. It is what I ate to escape from a life that was less than awesome. It was what helped me cope and no matter how many moves, was always there to help me feel like I was home, and was my friend when I didn't have any.
Gaming helped build my character as a person, helped me learn and grow and find a love for imagination and puzzle solving. Gaming ignited passion in my heart and mind. Gaming inspired understanding and creativity. Gaming made me smile, and in a world where you don't own anything, to have a smile, it is very precious indeed.
Gaming is still the main staple of my diet. Always will be.
