Crafted the Bifrost!

Rawr!

So, I like rainbows in real life. And not just cuz I am a lesbian. I actually get excited when I see them, like a little kid. One of the happy things in life.

Anyhoo, in Guild Wars 2, there is a legendary staff that is all about the rainbows, called the Bifrost. To buy it off the Trading Co. was priced at over 4k gold. To buy just the precursor to build it, a staff called The Legend, it was up for over 1k.

I made a gift of mastery long ago when I played before, just cuz I knew I wanted a legendary someday, and all the legendary weaps at that time required it to make. I also had 30 mystic clovers from WvWvW tracks I had completed before, and I had over 100 of every teir 6 crafting mat. I had 50 unidentified dyes, and 305 elder wood planks. 6 spirit wood planks. about 50 or less of every other kind of wooden plank. and about 10 pigments of every color. Oh, and 100 karka shells.

That is it. I had to buy all the other materials to make my Bifrost. I am talking all the globs of ectoplasm, the torture of the 750 Crystaline dust. I had to buy all the rest of the 54 spirit wood planks required, the 10 elonian leather. And yes, all that elder wood. All the iron and copper. All the rest of the T6 mats and pigments and crystal orbs, lodestones, passion flowers, so on so forth. The list is quite long.

In total, I spent just over 1150 gold. For a weapon that was selling for over 4k. The Legend was 950 by itself to actually craft. It took me 5 days. Honestly, the part 1, where you run around leaving bloodstone dust at the kennings, that was actually kind of fun, and wasn't hard.

Part 2 was literally just a money sink. I spent the entire time at the Lion's Arch Trading Co., running between it and the Artificing Station. It was just monotonous, but not hard. Hardest part was watching all my gold drain away :D

But while buying for all the other things I had to make, I also started buying for the future, and used BUY ORDERS, almost entirely. Some things I bought outright, but mostly, I don't think I could have afforded it without buy orders. I had 86 gold left to my name period after I finished all of this.

Part 3 is where it got loooooong. I lucked out, and got the Shatterer crystal part first try. I know, lucky. I got my Jade Maw eye, ran around getting laser'd and did my crystal testing all fairly quickly. I gathered my ooze globs, made most of my jars of paint and painted pictures. I even got my iron node farm done for the cobalt.

I was excited. All I had left after 3 days of work, thus far, was to gather some dioxide from coral, and to actually craft The Legend and the Bifrost.

It literally took 2 days straight, farming for over 10 hours each day, to get my dioxide off the coral nodes. I farmed almost 400 nodes. I thought, maybe it was me, but no, there were forums posts about it, multiple posts. The drop rate is just that horrible. Let me be clear, the HARDEST part of this whole process was the sheer tedious, not fun, coral farm on multiple toons. I swam for hours, flipping between characters to do the maps over again. It sucked so bad.

But finally, I got my last dioxide, squealed with delight and relief, then rushed onto my artificer, made my last jar of paint, painted my last painting, and boom!

The Legend was done! I just needed to finish my gifts. I farmed the rest of my mystic clovers in the mystic forge (toilet) :D.
And then made my first legendary. Bifrost.

I stayed up a few hours past my bedtime, jumping around with it, happy, so full of adrenaline that I wouldn't have been able to sleep anyhoo, despite being worn out. I happily indulged in being glad I had it, proud of myself for all the effort. I crafted my first legendary, and let me tell you, it made me partially want to immediately start crafting another one, and at the same time, promise myself that I would never craft one again :D

I am broke now, but I have something that is precious. I have a rainbow following me everywhere I go. I have a staff with stats I want. I have pride in knowing I earned it. I dove into the experience, once decided I was gonna do it, determined, hardcore, but I am kind of glad I did it that way. It was a frenzy, a rush, cept the frustration of the coral nodes, :D.

If you have never crafted a legendary, in GW2, a legendary actually feels legendary. They are actually rare, hard to obtain, and more than a status symbol, they actually are useful too. They will always be the best weapon in the game, even if new weaps with new higher stats come out, Anet adjusts the stats of legendary weaps to compare. Double sigils, double infusions.

But even more than any of that, for me, is now when I look at myself I feel that warm fuzzy like I am a kid excitedly noticing a rainbow watching over me from the sky. I want to jump up and down. And the rainbow will never go away. Gw2, even if I stopped playing for months, I could log in at any time and see it, at no extra cost to myself. I appreciate that. I appreciate my rainbow being a constant. I finally did go to bed, and I woke up still feeling that feeling. That's the real reward of crafting my Bifrost. :)

Pokemon Go and GW2

Rawr!

So, I have still been playing a lot of GW2 with my wife, and we are still enjoying it. I gave in and bought Heart of Thorns, and am so very glad we did. Not only is gliding fun, masteries helpful, auto loot wonderful, and the new builds interesting, but now we get to enjoy the new Living Story, and thus far, it has been quite excellent. :)

So, while out and about, we realized that we don't exercise as much as we should, and my wife said she wanted to take walks, but felt no reward. We are gamers, so we decided to give in and try the Pokémon craze...

Pokémon Go was super boring the first time we tried it, so much so, that we actually deleted it when we got home. We walked for 45 minutes, went to 3 Poke' stops, and caught 1 single Pokémon, because only one showed up.

My brother, who is also an adult, said, 'no no, go play in a park', that is where lures get dropped and you get Pokémon every couple minutes.

So, we tried our local park, and still nothing. The only place we actually have found any lures being dropped is by the public library, downtown.

So basically, we haven't deleted it, even though it has bugged out more than once, and even though it kills my phone battery, simply because we keep seeing people obsessed with it, and we figure we must be doing it wrong. Even at the library, where they spawn every 5 to 10 minutes, we find ourselves not really interested. It isn't exciting enough. I would rather just walk with my wife normally than do this, as it is. That would be more interesting. At least we'd have conversations uninterrupted by a trembling phone.

The only 'fun' part of the game thus far for us at all is she likes collecting things, so when we get a new one, she likes to look at her Pokedex, and I like the neat memorials and murals it guides you toward visiting. Otherwise, just huge boredom.

I would rather be home doing WvW than walking around staring at my phone hoping something actually cool will pop out instead of more weedles. Shrug.
